My birthday's on Friday. As usual, I am feeling a burst of creativity as my birthday approaches.
I have become especially conscious of this phenomenon since I started regular creative writing, although I have generally understood that December is generally an industrious and highly productive time for me. Because of this energy charge in December, I usually do some vigorous cleaning up, assessment and planning just in time for the new (Julian solar calendar) new year.
It was just before my birthday in late 2013 that I began the daily blogging of the 12-month project, "A Year of Living Positively." I was very reflective, yet full of energy and ambition.
This time, an urge to complete my latest novel has take me over. Since Sunday, I have finished two chapters and written two whole new ones. Having updated and extended the story outline, I estimate that I am at the halfway mark. I am not sure that I'll be able to complete the entire rough version before January 1, but I'll give it a try.
I cannot remember when exactly that I started this as yet untitled work. The document files show the oldest update as being in early 2013. That timing indicates that I was going through my usual surge in creativity and industry that winter. I guess I probably came up with the initial idea for this novel and began writing the first few chapters in the previous winter during a previous artistic wave.
Just four days ago, I was wondering what to do with this unfinished work. I had been reminding myself to work on it all fall, but I had been recently contemplating abandoning the project in favor of designing something new until I started perusing the chapters already formed during a day of idleness last Sunday. I was taking time out to beat a little cold that day, and had opted to try writing instead of going out. The characters of my novel got under my skin without warning, and they are living inside me once again. The project is alive and well.
