Day 315-50 more days of daily blogging for this positive thinking project left. The days roll by quickly, and it would be easy to fall behind again.
Everyone seemed blue today. It was a very rainy Friday following midterm exams and the festival. It is a sobering time. The students who performed less well look downcast.
I had to direct them into the next unit of study right away, for it is heavy in content and the crux of requirements for their next assignment. I therefore am doing a lot of reinforcement activities, finding extra materials and creating extra exercises. I put this work into the context of the next assignment and the whole course schedule for November.
Y and I stayed late to give the national FLAT oral tests. It is an examination to measure the proficiency levels of foreign language acquisition among competing government employees. They are public administrators and scientists, generally speaking. I enjoy talking with them, and it is often really interesting but there is not much time. If I indulge in five minutes of discussion, it is too long and the coordinating staff notice. Anyway, after years of administrating these kinds of tests, it only takes me about a minute to figure out their score. Only occasionally does it take a little more questioning to determine it. That happened once tonight.
Going home together, Y and I decided to stop at the neighbourhood tavern for a quick drop. It was my first time inside it, and I was pleasantly surprised to see women running it and the clean and bright atmosphere. We were the only clients there at the time, yet I know that some of my colleagues frequent the place, as well as other area residents. Anyway, it was a pleasant time chatting and hanging around there.
