Another wonderful day has passed. I did more communications concerning the Japan visit, called three of my brothers with greetings for Canada Day, got in a good workout at the gym, and received food from two of my colleagues who are organizing to leave on lengthy vacations tomorrow. It was thus a productive and rewarding day.
Y left me a package of fish and bags of potatoes and onions. The German woman brought me precious grapefruit juice, basil plants, cheese, bacon and condiments. B came in this evening to unload some milk, tomatoes, cheese, vinaigrette, and sparkling lemon water. That takes of a good portion of the groceries I’ll need for a week!
When I called my brothers, we talked about time passing. They each have birthdays this summer, as do a niece and nephew. One niece and her husband just bought her first house and they are planning to have children. A nephew recently had his sixteenth birthday and has been doing his first ever paid part-time job. One niece who began her first live-in relationship earlier this year got an overseas project for her employer, which lasted a month. Another brother has been with the same woman for a year, a landmark for him. It just so happened that one of the brothers had dug up an old video of a family event and was watching it recently. He says it features his son at one-and-a-half years old, our late father, me and others just hanging out at his home and actually enjoying some times together.
B came over for a visit on the eve of her departure. She is worried about managing with all her bags and getting a taxi very early tomorrow morning, so I offered to lend her a hand. We enjoyed a cigarette together up on the balcony in our apartment building. We are both casual smokers who keep it a semi-secret, at least from family and work.
I guess I’ll miss both Canada and the presence of my colleagues this summer, but I am in good spirits. I seem to have a lot to get done. As I said before, all the free personal time is precious—the time doing meaningful volunteer activities as well as my writing and personal maintenance like rest and recreation.
