Eye of the Optimist -public services

Public services offer many benefits. They are thus worth the taxes that support them and the government's investment in them. That is why they are hard fought for and defended. They provide legal services, health care, education, safety checks, industrial regulations, consumer protection, environmental conservatism, governance, infrastructure and maintenance, and much more.

Yesterday, I used three major public services available in my region. They were readily available and accessible, responded kindly and swiftly, investigated my concerns and found resolutions in the same day. Those services were a public medical center, a consumer protection agency and a city counseling/legal aid center for non-citizens.

Find out about these types of services in your area and consult them when appropriate. They can help you a lot and save a lot of grief and aggravation, despite procedures that might be complex.

Below I paste a couple of messages praising these services. I posted them on social media yesterday.

"A group of us made an inquiry through Busan Global Center (counseling, legal assistance for foreigners in a South Korean city) to Korea Consumer Center and got info and a speedy resolution on the same day. Awesome."

"Great experience with Busan public medical center today (South Korea). Old injuries irritating me, so went to investigate. Whereas the same response would take several weeks or even months in BC, Canada, I got consultation with the specialist, testing including ultrasound exam (done by same specialist), diagnosis, treatment including injection, and prescription within 2 hours. No hassle, and pain gone. True, here we pay 50/50, but my half of the bill plus drug dispensing fee was just under $100. Not bad for swift response and resolution."
