Back in the work-a-day world. The students were cheery. Some said they had good holidays, while others said they had to work and take care of family obligations. I felt good to be back.
Tomorrow is a day off. I want to use the time wisely. Since I have a few things to take care of before the trip and final exams in just one month, I am mindful of setting a pace to get it all done in good order on time. Today, I talked with students about our schedule for the remaining of the semester and thereby worked out a few more details. I’ll feel good once the poster for the conference presentation is made up, and the concept for the summer peace tour is laid out, and I am sure I have all the necessary gear for travel in June.
I think I’ll try to get a swim in and then get some shopping done on the way home. I should send a birthday card to my brother who has a birthday on May 22. Actually, it’s because his wife expects it. They don’t use computers and they know that finding greeting cards is difficult in this country, but she is in the habit of exchanging a lot of cards and gifts. Though I have already sent him birthday money to help him celebrate, I’ll pick out a card at the department store and perhaps tuck some trinket in the envelope with it.
I have other errands to do besides that. I think I’ll look for a decent small carry-on suitcase, at last. I have been using the small backpack for hiking, grocery shopping and short trips for about 20 years. Even though I don’t have proper space to store it, I think I would like that kind of bag to take along with my garment bag on the trip to Italy. Actually, the garment bag is becoming tattered, but it will have to do for a while yet.
My priority errand is taking care of the mobile phone. I don’t know what happened, but I have not been able to send messages and make calls, yet I never received a notice as I usually do telling me when it is time to purchase more phone time. Of course, it may have been overlooked with the long holiday having happened last week. It will be one week without proper phone service since I last successfully sent and received messages and calls. Another thing is, it seems to run out of power more often these days. Hm.
For the moment, it is another study night. My online class is starting in under two hours. I must prepare for it. It’s getting more challenging as the complexity of the sentences and conversations we are using is increasing. We have many verb forms under our belt, and a growing lexicon. Plus, we are working with compound sentences a lot.
